MEKT‘s history represents the history of three companies that were able to successfully combine their skills, professionalism, innovation and extensive experience in the production and sale of air-conditioning systems for the rail and tramway industry, creating a single company.
1920s
1921: Mitsubishi Electric Corporation was established in Tokyo, world leader in the production of electrical and electronic equipment for a wide range of sectors.
1924: Elettromeccanica Fer was established in Ferrara, Italy, working in the electromechanical and railway-tramway sectors, measuring and adjusting industrial ceramics, with plants in Ferrara, Bergamo, Milan and Seregno.
1928: The EF52 made its début on Japan’s railway network, the first electric locomotive to be produced on a large scale in Japan.
1950s
1958: Mitsubishi Electric Corporation developed its first HVAC units, optimised for use in railway carriages.
1959: An electric locomotive produced in Japan was delivered to a foreign client (India) for the first time.
1960s
1963: The company “Klimat” was established in Milan, producing civil and industrial air-conditioning equipment.
1965: An electric locomotive produced in Japan was delivered to a European client (Spain) for the first time.
1967: Elettromeccanica Fer adapted its technology to special railway applications and, subsequently, for the military and airport sectors.
1968: Mitsubishi Electric Corporation presented its first wall-mounted, split air-conditioning solution for homes: Kirigamine.
1970s 1990s
1978: HVAC systems optimised for railway transport were delivered to a foreign country (Mexico) for the first time.
1994: Klimat was present in the rail industry, supplying heating and air-conditioning systems.
1995: Klimat began working for Italy’s national railway sector, researching and producing solutions and equipment for train carriages and underground trains.
1998: Klimat designed and produced the first systems for stationary aircraft and subsequently sold the division dedicated to the industrial and civil sector, to focus on the field of static converters.
2000s
2003: HVAC systems optimised for railway transport were delivered to a European country (Greece) for the first time.
2005: Klimat and Elettromeccanica Fer merged to create Klimat-Fer S.p.A., Italy’s leading player for the production and sale of air-conditioners for cross-country rail transport, underground trains and trams.
Since
2010
2014: Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and Klimat-Fer S.p.A. joined forces: Mitsubishi Electric Klimat Transportation Systems was born.
